In this World Premiere Musical Romance, author/ composers Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda delve into all of our hopes and dreams when love comes calling. Hope thinks it’s just dinner - Charles thinks it’s a date. Is it destiny or just an accident that the first meeting of this unlikely pair turns into a lifelong romance? A musical journey through a relationship that features an original pop-rock score and a live four-piece band. Christopher Isherwood of the New York Times says of Brendan and Valerie’s work that they “inspire hope that musical theater, long considered to be on life support, may yet make a recovery fueled by musical transfusions from the more eclectic players in the pop and rock spheres.” Long Story Short continues that heritage of innovation and revelation through hip, funny dialogue, indelible music, and an honest look at the pains and pleasure of love. Hope will be played by Pearl Sun (How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Broadway); Charles will be played by City Theatre veteran Ben Evans (Male Intellect: An Oxymoron).
The design team for Long Story Short includes Neil Patel (Scenic), Andrew David Ostrowski (Lighting), C.T. Steele (Costumes), and Elizabeth Atkinson (Sound). Douglas Levine is the Music Director.
Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda are a married couple, two-thirds of the band GrooveLily, and two-time Jonathan Larson Award winners. Their projects include Striking 12, the first GrooveLily concert-musical; Toy Story the Musical for Disney; Sleeping Beauty Wakes for Deaf West Theatre/Center Theatre Group; Wheelhouse, the second GrooveLily concert-musical; A Midsummer Night’s Dream for McCarter Theatre/Paper Mill Playhouse; Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, a new one-woman musical that Valerie will perform; and their proudest production: three-year-old son Mose.
