CITY THEATRE BEGINS 2011 WITH MARCUS; OR THE SECRET OF SWEET  

Acclaimed Play by Tarell Alvin McCraney, Protégé of August Wilson and Author of City Theatre’s 2008 Hit, The Brothers Size

January 22 – February 13, 2011

City Theatre proudly presents Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet by Tarell Alvin McCraney, former protégé of August Wilson and author of City Theatre’s 2008 hit, The Brothers Size. Under the direction of Robert O’Hara, Marcus runs January 22 – February 13 on City Theatre’s Main Stage with an Opening Night Performance on Friday, January 28 at 8 pm.

Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet features Starla Benford, Jocelyn Bioh, Maurice McRae, Larry Powell, Jaime Lincoln Smith, and Bria Walker. The design team includes Tony Ferrieri (Scenic), Angela M. Vesco (Costume), Andrew David Ostrowski (Lighting), and Joe Pino (Sound).

Return to the unforgettable world of playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney in this companion play to The Brothers Size. A young man comes to terms with his identity and his family’s mysterious past in this poetic tale of adolescence, community, and sexuality. The New York Times hails McCraney’s writing as “a new, authentically original vision,” and The San Francisco Chronicle declares Marcus “a luminous, comic and affecting coming-of-age play.”
