The Eighth Annual
Young Playwrights Festival

Six plays by local students will be staged by professional directors, dramaturges, designers, and actors at City Theatre during the Eighth Annual Young Playwrights Festival. Sponsored by The H.J. Heinz Company Foundation, the festival runs October 17 – 28, 2007 in City Theatre’s Lester Hamburg Studio. The six selected plays were chosen by a panel of judges from among 156 scripts submitted to the Young Playwrights Contest by area middle and high school students.
Middle School Division

Art Smarts by Margaret Saunders
Age 14, Margaret is currently in seventh grade at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy in Aspinwall.
By Blood Alone by David Jimenez
Age 14, David is currently a freshman at Shady Side Academy. He wrote By Blood Alone while in eighth grade at St. Bede School in Point Breeze.
The Royal Pet by Matthew Daniel Spinneweber
Age 13, Matthew is currently in eighth grade at South Hills Middle School.

High School Division

Enlightenment by Emma Wagner
Age 18, Emma is currently a freshman at The Boston Conservatory for Musical Theatre. She wrote Enlightenment during her senior year at Mt. Lebanon High School.
Inside the Bookstore by Bridget Liddell
Age 17, Bridget is currently a freshman at DePaul University in Chicago. She wrote Inside the Bookstore during her senior year at Riverview High School in Oakmont.
To Catch a Fish by Olivia O’Conner
Age 16, Olivia is currently a sophomore at Knoch High School in Butler.
