WILD WITH HAPPY

By Colman Domingo
Directed by Reginald L. Douglas

April 8 – May 7, 2017
EXTENDED THROUGH MAY 13, 2017!

When struggling actor Gil returns home to bury his mother, he learns what a funny thing grief can be. Gil searches for a way to send her off in style, while his outrageous (and overbearing) Aunt Glo, hilarious best friend Mo, and an intriguing new-age funeral director do their best to derail his plans. This bright new comedy by Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo will transport audiences from the church to the Magic Kingdom, with a whole lotta fabulous in between.

The cast of four are a spectacle as they assume each role with gusto and then some…. All of these characters are vivid and have plenty of heart, and Reginald L. Douglas somehow manages to keep order in the asylum.

Monteze Freeland is wondrously inventive as the sashaying, attitude-ful Mo, a character who appears to be all exuberant surface and no depth – until the poignant, fleeting moment when Freeland lets us see the core of hurt and regret Mo uses all that attitude to cover up.

Merging fairytale with reality, the play conveys moving lessons about life, death, grief, and healing. Fast-paced and irreverent, the sharp comedy also satirizes everything from organized religion and Disneyworld, to the American funeral industry.

“One of the greatest gifts Corey brings to the role is a sense of action. The joy of the play and the engine of the play is that Gil is confronted with them and confronting them. … It’s the best of Lucy, and Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke. That’s what Ricky has to play, to go up against Lucy. It’s been fun to watch the four of them volley.” — Director Reginald L. Douglas
